How are you feeling today??? We are feelin’ pretty cold here in Philadelphia, especially after our long weekend in sunny, warm Key West, Florida!
We have just one word to describe Key West…
Charming!!!
What a lovely place to visit during winter to relax, unwind and get away from the chill and snow. We loved everything about Key West, but especially enjoyed eating all the fresh seafood!
We spent a whole day walking around the town and tasting some of the area’s delectable delights on a seafood tour. AND, we learned about what makes the seafood in Key West so special!
Check out a video of the tour and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel, Culture Pursuits by Life Established!
Here are the highlights:
You have to try the fish tacos at Garbo’s! This food truck hit it big after Guy Fieri walked past and wondered why so many locals were standing in line. He had a wiff of the Korean BBQ Borritos and tasted the Mahi Mahi tacos and decided to feature the truck on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. We agree that the fish taco was one of the best we’ve ever tasted!

2. Royal Red shrimp are absolutely worth all the fuss! First of all… they taste like a combination of shrimp, lobster and scallop. So… if you are a seafood lover, a serving of Royal Reds is just for you! Unfortunately, they are hard to find. In Key West, while they aren’t listed on the menu, you can ask for them at the bar at Conch Republic Seafood. We bought some raw from the local seafood market, cooked them up at our villa and…. YUMMY!
3. Florida lobsters are spiny! That is… they don’t have claws (or pinchers) like Maine lobsters do. The meat is all in the tail. While they are not as sweet as Main lobsters, they are just as delicious! We had delicious spiny lobster mac n’ cheese at Bagatelle, one of Key West’s great brunch spots.
We hope this inspires you to think about your next weekend getaway to Key West!
