Kenia: I was so excited to go to France for my high school senior class trip. It didn't matter that I had spent the last four years learning Spanish -- I was getting on an airplane for the first time and going to Paris, the city of love! Yes, it was wonderful to visit all of the iconic monuments and eat the delicious food, but my best experience was visiting my teacher's friends and hanging out with their kids at the local pub. This experience taught me so much about life in Paris and what it was like to be a teenager there at the time. It's also where I developed my love for a good glass of merlot!
Kevin: I was young and in the military and, all of a sudden, found myself stationed in Germany. Although I was on assignment, it was such an adventure! It was so easy to explore different areas of the country because everything was accessible by train. What a festive place -- especially during Oktoberfest! The outdoor pig roasts and amazing large tents with everything from beer to schnitzel to bratwurst were something truly special to experience. Wherever I went, there were happy people and the beer steins were clinking all day long!
And now... Us: We've been married for over 25 years and are fortunate to be able to do many of the things we love -- mainly, travel, eat good food and try new things (in that order!). Even at this stage in our lives, we always want to be learning and think the best way to do that is to get out and see the the world and meet its people!
We travel differently. And, we started our company, Culture Pursuits, to help people who want similar out-of-the-ordinary experiences when they travel.
For us, it's not about the popular tourist attractions or even off the beaten path destinations. It's about meaningful experiences that truly connect us with the places we are visiting. We are always willing to step outside our comfort zone to experience authenticity. We believe it's these types of experiences that lead to self-discovery and personal growth.

Don't let your ethnicity hinder where you go (generally, the world is a friendly place!)
Be open to meeting people who are different than you
